Burmese cuisine. What to try:
Myanmar food is unknown for most of us. It has influences from bordering countries like China, India or Thailand but also has a wide range of dishes 100% Burmese, absolutely tasty. Also ethnic Burmese minorities like Mon, Shan, Rakhine and Chin have wonderful and very popular cuisine in the country,. From soups, spicy salads, seafood, superbly delicious meat or sweet and addicting sweet Burmese tea.

Here comes some suggestions from locals and travelers:
-I suggest you to try Mazali bud salad (Mazali Poo Thote, in Burmese) while you're in Taunggyi (Shan State). The Myth says that if you eat it on the full moon day, you will obtain medicinal and magical power of the salad. But only on the full moon day. Recommended by Lone Lone
-Nangyi Thohk (Nangyi thoke, Nangyi thohk)- Thick round rice noodles mixed with specifically prepared chicken curry.
-Laphet thohk- It’s a delicious pickled tea leaf salad that is very popular all over Myanmar. It is prepared by mixing different ingredients, depending on the area. I preffer the mix including tea leaves, fried garlic, peas, sesame and peanuts. The texture of the salad is soft and crispy at the same time.
-Shan noodles- It’s probably my favourite Burmese dish. The main ingredients are rice noodle, chicken or pork, onion, garlic, tomato, peanut and soya bean paste.
-Burmese sweet tea (La Pe Yay)- It’ s a very sweet tea in which they mostly add condensed milk.
