WHAT DO I PUT IN MY FIRST AID KIT?

If you are getting ready for a long trip, you are traveling to a country  with limited health care resources or you' re visiting rural areas, it is advisable to prepare a small first aid kit with:

Before buying this things, ask your doctor and your pharmacist for advice.

-Mosquito repellent spray. Use it every day, especially at sunrise and sunset.

-Bandages and plasters or antiseptic wipes are very useful. Especially if you get a cut or skin rashes and you have to walk with bare feet, ex. flip flops. Check the quality of the plasters. Some cheap plasters don' t stick properly and can be useless once you need them.

-Antiseptic. Tincture of iodine to disinfect wounds and also can be used to purify water. If you are in places where it’s not possible to get bottled water, you also can use purifying water tablets or iodine. You need to leave it at least 30 minutes before you drink it. I only use it in rare occasions but can be helpful if you don’t have bottled water.

-Aspirin.

-Anti-histamines. They are effective against allergies, itching, skin rashes and insect bites.

-Anti-diarrheal pills.
-Anti-inflammatory cream.

-Hypertonic serum/Rehydration sachets. This is helpful in case your body is low of defenses after some sickness. Help replace fluids and salts lost through diarrhoea or vomiting.

-Anti-nausea medication.

-Antimalarials. Discuss with medical professionals before taking these medicines. Many travelers reported strong side effects with Malarone but there are some other brands.

-Antibiotics. You should discuss this with your doctor before you leave if you should take some with you.

-Hand sanitizer. Wet towels. Also can be helpful to clean yourself when you are on a long trip.

-Sunblock cream. Maybe it' s not a first aid product but helps to prevent sunburn and I would say is very necessary if you' re travelling to very hot countries. Ask some especialists which factor is better for your skin.

-Water purifying tablets. I sometimes bring them in case I'm in a place where I can not get bottled water or the shops are closed. If you have the chance is better to boil the water first, to kill the germs. You need to leave the  purifying tablets for, at least, 30 minutes before you drink the water.

-Vitamin B complex . There are no scientific evidence that this really works. My pharmacist told me that the smell of your body when you take these pills reject the mosquitos. I took these pills daily for almost a month and most of the time I didn' t put repellent. Not a single bite. When I finished the pills and I didn´t put repellent, I was bitten. But this is only my experience. I recommend to put repellent and also taking vitamin B complex.
