Getting here:

Bus

There are 2 main bus companies connecting Yangon with Ngwe Saung (This companies also travel to Chaung Tha, departing from Hlaing Thar Yar Bus Terminal)Asia Dragon Express- Return tickets cost 15,000 kyats/return tickets. Comfortable and modern air con bus. A bottle of water is provided. Departs from the Asia Dragon Express office, on Pansodan Street, almost hourly up to 1:00 pm. You also can pick up the bus at Dagon Centre II on the corner of Pyay Road and Bargayar Street in Myaynigone. Wait on the sidewalk outside the shopping centre.  There are usually 2 stops on route.Shwe Pyi Linn bus company- Ticket cost 9,000 kyats (4.000 for locals). This bus has 45 seats. Departs at 6.30am and arrives at 1pm. Stops many times.

Kenny Austin​'s TIP: When you get off the bus, they drop you at Shwe hin tha hotel. They are catching on the commission and monopolize the town. Instead, head opposite direction to the south. The southern you walk, the cheaper the hotels and restaurants are. Go to the beach, see the local village. There is not much to do in Ngwe Saung, that's the idea. Just relax and enjoy the quiet area. This is a place for relaxing.

By plane
Yangon>Pathein (lasts 25 minutes). From Pathein it´s possible to take a car ride to Ngwe Saung (48 km).

By car

The place can be reached from Yangon in about  7 hours. Also
The beach can be reached by car from Yangon for 4-5 hours passing through the delta and crossing the low spurs of the Rakhine mountain ranges. There is only one ferry at 12am (5$, foreigners/ round trip).

Note: There is a project for extending Ngwe Saung Beach. When it is completed it will become the longest beach in south east Asia, according to an official report from Myanmar Hoteliers’ Association. The extension has started in June 2012 and will take 4-5 years to complete. The plan calls for extending the beach from Lovers’ Island to Nga Yote Kaung Island.
