You might pay in dollars only in hotels, transport and touristic places. For the daily shopping you will use kyats. Exchange to kyats is always better from euros because the currency is higher. Notes must be in perfect condition: no folds or tears but from 2013 some places are being more flexible with that. You will get the best exchange rate for 100/ 50 $ bills. It´s possible to withdraw money with MasterCard card in the airport and in CB Banks cash machines. CB Bank on the corner of 23rd Street and Strand Road in Yangon was the first ATM was installed in Myanmar’s in November 2012. Travelers with an international MasterCard, Maestro or Cirrus-branded card are able to withdraw money. CB Bank is one of the most established commercial banks in Myanmar, with the largest ATM network in the country. There are few places where you can pay by credit card but some International hotels and few merchants allow you to pay with MasterCard and Visa (usually 4% surcharge). Never exchange money in the street, where “sellers” will cheat you offering you better rates.There are ATMs in both the Yangon and Mandalay International Airports and in the shopping malls in big cities.From 1st February 2013, Visa cardholders can use their Visa cards to pay for transactions at selected merchants in Myanmar but withdrawals are not yet available for this brand.
