PYIN OO LWIN (MAY MYO)
It’s called the City of Flowers. This is the town where in early 1900s the Governor of Burma moved for the cool temperatures and great landscapes, some of the main reasons why the British chose it as their principal summer hill station.  Nowadays still remain some houses and churches from that period. 

 

Get here
Yangon>Pyin Oo Lwin- The bus company Shwe Mandalar does this route. Departs at 5pm and 5.30pm. Cost 10.400k. and takes 14 hours to get there.
The bus company Tat Lann departs at 5pm. Cost 13.500 kyats and takes about 10 hours to get there.


National Kandawgyi Garden- Entrance 2.000 Kyats/$5, adult and $3, child (foreigners). Opening hours: 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. 30. It’s the main attraction in Pyin Oo Lwin. It was founded in 1915 and turned into the National Botanical Garden In 1924. It displays the wide range of Myanmar’ s wildlife. Among others, we can find an Orchid and Bamboo Gardens, Pagoda Island, Tea House, Swamp Walkway, Rock Garden and a souvenir Center.  Address: Nandar Road (30 minutes walk from downtown)  011- 085 22497

Anisakan waterfalls- It takes about 30 minutes by moto/car/taxi ride to get to the entrance of the trail. Then you must leave your vehicle and walk down for about 1 hour. It’s very popular among locals and you probably won’t find any tourist there. In front of the waterfalls there is a small restaurant and a couple of tables to drink, eat and rest.

Also a visit to the lake near Pyin Oo Lwin is a must. It’s the perfect place for relaxing and enjoying sightseeing. There is also an interesting Chinese Buddhist Temple. Free entrance.

Accommodation
Grace hotel 1- 30$ double room, towel and soap provided. Fan and TV. Fairly clean. No wi-fi. Breakfast included. There are some tables outside with views to a garden. When I was there, they were repairing and fixing many things around so I hope in 2013 garden looks gorgeous. The girl in the office speaks English, the rest of the staff speak some words. It’s about 5-10 min. walking to  downtown. Address: 114, Nann Myaing Rd.  085-21230

Queen Hotel- $20 double bedroom with Wi-Fi.

Eat
Day and Night-  Small and clean restaurant. Internet access.  Good range of snacks including hamburgers.21945. Address: 28, Ze Wa Road, between Myoma Cinema and the main market.

Golden Triangle Café and Bakery-  This is the favourite restaurant for Tripadvisor’s readers. Food is western prices and drinks are expensive. It’s appreciated by his food and fresh ingredients, coffe and desserts. It’s possible to take away and has wi-fi. Address: Mandalay-Lashio Road.
